ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Urdu was introduced in 1973 in this college. In the initial stages there were only a few informal classes on Sunday covering mainly pre University syllabi. It was in 1975 that the department was duly affiliated by the Calcutta University. In the beginning apart from teaching at the graduate level, the department also taught pre University level between 1975-1978. Subsequently from 1978-2002 the department has taught higher secondary classes.
Apart from teaching department also conducts and organises various programs and seminars. Extended lectures are also organized on a regular basis. Most of the time
department involves professors from other colleges and sometimes ex-teachers are also invited. Students seminars are also held where the students participate warmly. Creative writing and project making is also very popular among the students. Teachers of this
department are very active and participate in all college activities and also are very helpful in terms of teaching.
