Zoology is one of the interesting branches of Biological Sciences that deals with the amazing and marvellous world of animals. The Department of Zoology was established in Bangabasi Morning College in 1965. Continuous demands from the students&rsquo; section coupled with steady and positive efforts of the teachers have been the key to the introduction of B.Sc. Honours Course in Zoology from the academic session 2014-2015. The course covers areas in field of Classical Zoology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Animal Physiology, Biochemistry, Endocrinology, Genetics, Immunology, Parasitology, Evolutionary Biology, Developmental Biology, Fisheries, Apiculture and Animal Biotechnology.
The department possesses a spacious and equipped general laboratory, an air-conditioned lab-cum-classroom with LCD projector and Internet Facility, a small Museum and an Instrument Room. Apart from availing text and reference books in the College Library students can also read and lend reference books from the departmental library. The department also subscribes Academic Journal for students and teachers.&nbsp;
Teachers in the department have diverse specializations in the field of Genetics, Animal Behaviour, Entomology and Environmental Science. Faculty members are not only interested in acquiring academic and professional growth but they indeed devote their knowledge and skill for holistic development of the students. Field Study Tours are conducted every year with utmost care to provide opportunity to the students to come across to the natural ecosystem and to understand the systems working therein that creates real interest and clarifies subject matter. The non-teaching staff assists teachers in the teaching and learning activities.
Celebration of special days of relevance like World Animal Day, Environment Day, Tiger Day in the department spreads awareness among the students on the significance of animals and animal conservation. Add-on Course on Biodiversity Study has been introduced in the department in the academic session 2022- 2023. Students participate in different project work, seminar presentation and awareness camps in and outside the college. A good number of students graduating from the department take up higher studies and research work.
