The department of physics at Bangabasi Morning College is the embodiment of an organization dedicated to teaching of science for more than fifty years. The department pursues Honours (4 years Honours and Honours with research under NEP) as well as the multi-disciplinary courses (3 year general courses). The department started with the General Course during the period of its inception in 1965. The Physics (Hons.) course started in the session of 2005-2006. Over the decades the department has not only grown but has also earned a status as a habitat of quality learning/training which attracts students from all over West Bengal and nearby states.&nbsp; &nbsp;
The department is equipped with modern up-to-date practical instruments. The faculties are engaged in active research and keep themselves updated with the new syllabi. The non-teaching staff are also very cordial and dutiful. The teachers not only provide a quality education but also helps in developing a scientific mind among the students and keeps a check on their mental well-being. The faculty members attend various faculty developmental programmes, national and international seminars and conferences. The department organizes science fair, visit to research institutes and outreach programme in higher secondary schools. Students of different universities also carry out master degree project (research oriented) in this department.
The strength and pride of the department are its students. A large number of students of this department come from downtrodden families where they are first generation graduate students. However, their performance after studying in this department is noteworthy. Many of them are engaged in academic activities in colleges and schools, research activities in reputed universities, IIT, IISER, IISC, DRDO, SNBNCBS, CGCRI, VECC and also in South Korea and Poland, and administrative activities in Indian Forest Service, West Bengal Police Service. They cherish the relation with the department and visit here when they find time. The long tradition of excellence in the department has been made possible by the dedication of the teachers and non-teaching staff and also co-operation from college administration throughout the years.
