The Department of English of Bangabasi Morning College was set up in 1965. It has been offering undergraduate courses affiliated to University of Kolkata ever since. During the last four years the courses were offered under CBCS system and NEP has been introduced in 2023. English language courses are interdisciplinary and are offered across all the three streams: Humanities, Sciences &amp; Commerce.
Teachers of this department mostly engage in interactive pedagogy through lectures and presentations. ICT is also used as and when suitable. Students come from diverse backgrounds and bilingual methods are used often. Students are encouraged &nbsp;to participate actively through student seminars and group activities. Interdisciplinary presentations are arranged in accordance with the present syllabus. They are encouraged to use the rich library resources as a part of their tutorials.
The department has been offering short Certificate courses on communication skills with an objective of improving their employability. There has been a positive response for this course and the syllabus has been designed by the teachers of the department. The department also tries to arrange invited lectures to help share different perspectives on the topics of the syllabus.
At present, the department has four faculty: Dr. Ronita Roy, Arup Debnath, Anindya Sen &amp; Kunal Kumar Halder. This department as per the ethos of the college has been trying to teach and empower the students coming from less privileged sections of the society which was the dream of our founder.&nbsp;
